How Roles work

In Link, Roles are sets of functional permissions. 

E.g. you could imagine a Role called "Viewer" that only has possibility to view (not edit) Link entities.

Note that Roles are associated with User groups (not Users directly). The full set of permissions for a particular user will be the sum of the permissions on all Roles associated with the User groups (s)he is a member of.

Link comes with a pre-defined set of Roles that you can use when creating User groups. But it is perfectly possible to create your own as well.

After clicking "User roles" on the main menu, you will be shown a Data grid containing all the existing Roles in your Link instance.

Each permission for a Role is shown under the 'Permissions' column separated by a comma. If you are not able to see all permissions for a single role, you can click the highlighted arrow to the left to expand the permissions view as shown in the screenshot above.

You can create a new Role by clicking on "Create new" in the top of the screen.

To view or edit a Role, simply double-click it.

When creating or editing a Role, you can edit the Role name and associate permissions to it.

In the screenshot above, you can see that the role "Distribution editor" has 14 associated permissions and that there are plenty more available. Simply tick checkboxes from the list to associate them with the Role.

When you are done, simply press "Save".

Note that permissions are non-editable system entities. For each permission, you can learn what it does from its description.
