This document is a guide for end users of the BIZbrains Link application. It provides you with a good overall understanding of what a Link system is, what it can do and how you can use it.

You might encounter features in your system that are not described in this manual or even features that seem to be missing – because Link is a flexible and extendable application, it is highly likely that your particular solution has been customized to some degree.

It is also important to note that access to Link is controlled by the dynamic set-up of users and roles. If you do not have administrative privileges in your Link, you will not be able to access all of the features covered in this document.

Link overview

The basic purpose of Link is to support companies in exchanging documents with business partners in an electronic format. This need is very common and numerous customer-specific software solutions have been built over the years to help with tracking and error handling of the documents.

Link enriches a standard Microsoft BizTalk Server solution by supplying a lot of standardized and well-tested new functionality. The most important features are:

- standardized message flow

- easy set-up of new partners

- transparent document tracking

- error handling

- a user interface that does not require BizTalk experience.

However, the core of a Link solution is still BizTalk. To make your Link solution ‘come alive’, it is necessary to do some BizTalk configuration. This involves the creation of Schemas (document types), Maps (document conversions) as well as some other things.
